Ebolavirus leads to serious hemorrhagic fever with elevated fatality. Transmission occurs primarily through hands-on contact infectious fluids of infected individuals. It is found African regions, during outbreaks often occurring in rural areas. Notable epidemics include 2014-2016 West African outbreak, affecting Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone. Another outbreak was in 2020 DR Congo. Illness often start in 2-21 days post-exposure, such as fever, vomiting, watery diarrhea, and stomach pain. Current treatments focus on care that supports, including IV fluids alongside complication management, and also experimental treatment and vaccines.
