Labour MP Shabana Mahmood has put forward a plan for a new refugee pathway inspired by Canada’s model.
It would let businesses, universities and community groups sponsor refugees, providing them with housing and employment support.
The aim is to speed up integration and lighten the burden on the present system.
Mahmood says the route might admit thousands of newcomers, similar to the Ukrainian scheme used last year.
Critics claim the initiative might pressure public services.
The government has yet to set a timetable.
