www.standard.co.ukHere are the latest swift-related updates I can share right now, based on recent public coverage:
Swift conservation and nesting updates: There are ongoing reports from various UK swift groups about nesting activity and fledging counts in 2024–2025, with several sites documenting new nests and progress in swift colonies. This includes posts from local groups noting arrivals, nest counts, and fledging events at multiple houses and towers, as well as plans to increase swift-brick installations in new developments. [Sources refer to local swift blogs and conservation updates published in 2024–2025.]
Policy and public-interest coverage: National and regional outlets have highlighted Swift conservation discussions, including pushbacks and support for making swift bricks a standard feature in new housing developments, as part of urban wildlife initiatives. [Sources include conservation group updates and media coverage from 2024–2025.]
Species context: The Common Swift (Apus apus) remains an urban-adapted migratory species that nests in crevices of buildings and is a frequent subject of conservation efforts in Europe and the UK, particularly around nesting opportunities and protective measures in urban areas. [General species information widely reported in conservation materials.]
Would you like me to pull the very latest specific articles or summaries from major outlets (e.g., local conservation groups, national wildlife bodies, or major UK newspapers) and present a concise timeline with links? If you have a particular region (e.g., Los Angeles or wider UK) or a specific aspect (nest counts, policy updates, or conservation actions) in mind, tell me and I’ll tailor the update. I can also compile a quick snapshot with key dates and locations if you’d prefer.

The number of different nest entrances we recorded was 84, one more than last year. Fifty to sixty visits were recorded at some of the nests, so we are confident that at least some of the Swifts bred successfully despite the changeable weather. We hope that those nests visited later in the season by younger prospecting Swifts will be returned to next year when the...
